Sample and Prototype Development

New product development overseas is far more complicated than simply reproducing an existing product. Aside from the obvious need for design there are many other considerations including intellectual property protection, feasibility studies, development of technical drawings, mass production and packaging issues.

The costs associated with developing samples and prototypes in the West are astronomical while comparable work may be done overseas at a fraction of the cost. Lower costs will reduce risk especially for a company just starting out or with a new idea/product.

Fiberlinks Textiles Inc. has a great deal of experience developing new products and has helped many clients bring new ideas to the marketplace. We have our own in-house design team to assist in new product development and help our customers develop and produce new items at a fraction of the time and cost necessary to do so elsewhere.

New Product Development Process

• Evaluate concept details.
• Create conceptual drawing/Techpack.
• Research materials and material providers.
• Perform preliminary cost analysis.
• Confirm materials and target pricing with client.

Model - developing a model to test the functionality of the item in question.

• Produce a model based upon preliminary techpack.
• Wash test all material components involved.
• Analyze results and make any recommendations necessary.
• Alter materials/designs, as needed and perform cost analysis.
• Confirm final materials and target pricing.

Pre-production sample - Once the design is more or less finalized a sample must be produced.

• Identify appropriate vendor(s).
• Analyze materials and other needs.
• Sign agreements with vendors.
• Analyses of the components required that will be purchased from other vendors.
• Establish production schedule.
• Production management.
• Perform quality control.
• Test functionality.
• Send pre-production sample for customer approval and/or list of final recommendations.
